| In order to finance her planned eponymous institute (an interdisciplinary performance and education center in Hudson, New York), Marina Abramović launched a fundraising campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. In return for donations, Abramović pledged to perform several live actions: a $1 donor was to be embraced by the artist; a $25 donor was to get an exclusive course on staring via live streaming. However, in return for the largest donation, $10,000, the donor was to get nothing: "Marina will do nothing. You will do nothing. You will not be publicly acknowledged....". The crowdfunding project was successful, as Abramović received more than $660,000 from nearly 5,000 donors.

During her retrospective at MoMA (March 14 to May 31, 2010), Marina Abramović sat motionless and silent seven hours a day in a chair. Visitors were able to individually sit down opposite her to begin a "mental dialogue." Abramović said: "Here, everything was about stillness and about literally doing nothing and being in the present." | |
