Black Paintings, 1953-1967. GF | A | In 1953, Ad Reinhard began working on his black paintings series; from 1956 until his death, he worked on them exclusively. He tried to free painting from of all unnecessary ballasts that disturbed the experience of pure black, such as statement/content, pictorial representation, representational reference, symbol, style, or composition). Nevertheless, if you immerse yourself into this black, you do not get the impression that there is nothing there. On the contrary, the longer you look at the images, the more minimal light and color differences, and tonal gradations become more apparent. | |
