Nam June Paik was originally a composer and studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen in Cologne, but, as a member of the Fluxus movement, he increasingly turned towards visual arts and performance. He is considered the founder of video and media art.

Zen for film (Fluxfilm n°1), 1964. GF | A | Silent Movie, 8 min, black/white. In an endless loop, an unexposed 16 mm film reel runs through the projector. It is a film that only shows itself and its material textures. In the projected image, bright light is visible, along with the tiny scratches and dust particles that pile up as artifacts of the projection on each pass.
